Remember ODD is more than the typical anger, defiance or disrespect you may see in your teenager as they transition into adulthood. Oppositional Defiant behavior is a consistent pattern of defiance and hostility toward anyone in a position of authority. The behavior interferes with everyday life and there are problems at school, at home and often with other authority figures such as the police.
Symptoms:
- Defiant behavior
- Aggressive behavior
- Disobedient behavior
- Not paying attention
- Excessively arguing with adults
- Deliberately trying to annoy or upset others, or being easily annoyed by others
- Blaming others for their mistakes
- Having frequent outbursts of anger and resentment
- Being spiteful and seeking revenge
- Swearing or using obscene language
- Saying mean and hateful things when upset
- Poor academic achievement
- Low self esteem
- Frequent outbursts of anger
- Drug and/or alcohol abuse
- Moodiness
- Easily frustrated
- Refuses to follow the rules
- Constantly questions the rules
- Negativity
- Acts aggressively toward brothers and sisters and friends
- Has difficulty maintaining friendships
