Base Camp – “Get Real”

After the orientation phase, boys enter the next part of treatment in program. Base Camp is designed to last at least 1 – 2 months, however, many students fight change, as well as program rules and standards, leading to negative behavior which keeps them at this phase for a longer period.

This step-through phase of treatment has been designed to help each student begin to “get real” with himself and others. Getting real refers to breaking through the walls of one’s own denial. It means realizing that he is responsible for how he chooses to respond to situations in his life.

While working on this step-through phase of treatment, a student begins to identify his “thinking errors,” the problems in his current beliefs, coping mechanisms, and lifestyles and how these problems affect his happiness and others around them.

As a student progresses through this step-through phase of treatment, he begins to look at himself more honestly, take more and more responsibility for his choices, and stop blaming others for his problems.

Awareness, acceptance, decisions, and sharing are the objectives of this phase of treatment.
