The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released their Mental Health Surveillance Among Children – United States 2005-2011 report on May 17, 2013. The report indicated that ADHD, ODD and Conduct Disorder are behavior disorders that often co-exist together.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is defined as someone experiencing significant difficulties with inattentiveness or hyperactivity and impulsive behavior or a combination of the two. ADHD affects all aspects of a teenager’s life — from relationships with family and peers, to motivation and productivity, to overall self-confidence.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a mental health condition in which a child or adolescent displays an ongoing pattern of uncooperative, defiant, lack of respect, angry and annoying behavior toward people in authority. These constant behaviors interfere with the child’s or teens daily activities, as well as, activities and relationships at school and at home.

A Conduct Disorder is a pattern of defiant behavior, drug or alcohol abuse, impulsive behavior or trouble with the law. These types of behaviors are habitual. Conduct Disorders tend to be more prevalent in males and often associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Learning Disabilities (LD). Conduct Disorders can also lead to Depression or Bipolar Disorder.

ADHD, ODD and Conduct Disorders have a high risk of alcohol addiction/dependence and other substance abuse and dependence problems.
