Holidays and Family stress..
We all know that being a part of a family is not always easy, especially when learning disabilities, behavior problems and addiction are at play. When we add the stress of coming together with extended Family it can get down right disastrous. This happens because there is often an expectancy to have the most amazing and magical day of the year. Gift buying and money stress is on the top of the list, then traveling for hours, and lastly being in one place with family members who may be out of their comfort zone. Our best advice is to sit down and discuss with members of your family what is truly important. You should identify what this holiday represents to you; things like love, kindness and charity. If we can focus on these things, take care of each other and put our differences aside for a time, we can really enjoy reconnecting with our loved ones. The problems of the world will still be there tomorrow, but maybe having this short break from the chaos will give us HOPE and help us get through the next struggle.
