The Pass Out Game also known as the Choking Game or the Fainting Game is when a person hyperventilates or uses other means to restrict breathing and passes out.

This is a popular game among teenagers.

Teens get a high feeling from cutting off their oxygen supply. This is a deadly game especially if done alone. The risks include cardiac arrest, head trauma or other injuries from falling and death.

In September 2012 a 15 year old boy from the San Diego, California area and a 12 year old boy from South Milwaukee both died from playing the Pass Out Game.

Reasons teens play this game:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Curiosity
  • To get a rush feeling or a high feeling
  • To get a no cost feeling of intoxication even though it is very brief
  • To experience an altered state of consciousness
  • To get the high feeling without drugs

If you hear your teen or their friends talking about this game or you see rope, leashes, or other objects that could be used for choking talk to them right away. Teenagers think this is a safe game.
