REBT examines thought patterns and the relationship between thinking, feeling and behavior.
The core idea behind REBT is that irrational beliefs and thought patterns contribute to emotional and behavioral issues.
By identifying and challenging these irrational beliefs, individuals can develop healthier thinking patterns and emotional responses.
REBT emphasizes the ABC model:
- A (Activating event): An event or situation that triggers a response.
- B (Beliefs): The individual’s beliefs about the event, particularly irrational beliefs.
- C (Consequences): The emotional and behavioral consequences that result from those beliefs.
The therapist helps the adolescent identify negative self talk, negative beliefs and act against them. REBT is effective in working with adolescents with anxiety related disorders.
