Student life goes on…
When a young man enters our program he is leaving life as he knew it behind.. It can be very difficult and frightening, even for our Parents. We do a lot of hard work right from the beginning, and just dig in. School, therapy, and community service keeps them busy. We do however give our students some “down time”, this is when they journal and reflect on what they are learning and what is happening with them. We also offer recreation in the form of our Retriever Program, various sports and spending time in nature.
We recognize each student for their positive changes and improvements as they advance in the program. This past week we had a Birthday, we use this time to have some fun and help our student feel that they are important and life events are not forgotten. All of the young men enjoy celebrating with the others in the program, it is another way they can participate in a positive peer culture and bond with one another. This is something that they would have celebrated back home.. Granted we celebrate a little differently than they would have – before entering the program. The important thing is that they feel like life can be fun in a manageable and positive way.
