Students in the Community…

Here at Triumph Youth Services we feel that it is important to have our students engage with their community.

We have career day in which our community leaders come together to mentor our students. We have seen that this is so useful in helping our young men to see their true potential. A mentor can help the student to believe in himself and boost his confidence. A mentor should ask questions and challenge, while providing guidance and encouragement. Mentoring allows our students to explore new ideas in confidence. It is a chance to look more closely at themselves and their individual issues also looking at opportunities and what they truly want out of life. Mentoring is about becoming more self aware, taking responsibility for your life and directing your life in the direction you decide, rather than leaving it to chance. One of our students favorite days was when they were invited to learn about Fire Fighters. They got to wear the gear and practice drills that the fire fighters do to keep themselves in shape for this important work. The men and Women at the station also spent time answering questions and encouraging the young men to follow their dreams no matter how difficult they many seem.  Students that come into our program with behavior problems, low self esteem, and depression show signs of improvement, especially on how they view themselves after just one day of mentoring. They not only feel better about the future but they feel included and accepted by the community. It is a powerful experience for everyone involved.career day 15career day 3career day 4
